The Power of Forgiveness

Blessed are the Merciful, for they shall receive Mercy!”

Forgiveness, just how powerful is it? I believe we often forget exactly how important it is for us to be forgiving in our daily lives. As a Christian Woman I know that God had sent his only son to Earth to pay the price of our sins, on the cross so that we would be FORGIVEN and be able to live Eternity in Heaven with him. So again, just how powerful is forgiveness?

I believe that forgiveness in our hearts is VITAL! Just think, God forgave so WE could LIVE. Over the past week I have been really focused on learning to forgive others and myself, giving it to God and softening my own heart, as this is something that I feel God has really put on my mind. The feeling of emptiness, or that heavy weight feeling we have I think that comes from allowing our hearts to have ‘hardened’ over time. We seem to always rather put blame outward, rather then to focus inward. God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive them and heal their land”

Once we can humble ourselves and learn to forgive the ones who have done wrong against us the burden we carry will lighten and our hearts soften. God lives in us and if God is with us who could stand against us? With out forgiveness we would not be able to have a relationship with the Lord, or any one for that matter. We know in Matthew 5:44-45 it says, But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in Heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends the rain on the righteous and unrighteous.

When I read that verse I feel in my heart that forgiveness is one of the most powerful forms of love. God is love. Therefor forgiveness is not only powerful but vital. As it says in Matthew 5; But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Right there is a strong reminder of the power in forgiveness, we have nothing with out it. We have the choice to choose peace when the enemy tries to stray us away from the Lord. Be strong and merciful. Love your neighbors as yourself. Forgive your enemies as the Lord forgives you.
